The Three Stages of a Builders Clean
Stage 1: Rough Clean
The rough clean happens during or immediately after the main construction phase, once the bulk of the trade work is complete but before fit-off and finishing. The focus is on removing the large volume of waste and debris generated by the build itself.
This includes clearing out off-cuts, packaging, rubble, excess materials, and heavy dust deposits from floors, window reveals, and surfaces. The rough clean makes the site safe for the final trades to complete their work and sets the foundation for the more detailed cleaning stages that follow.

Stage 2: Detail Clean (or Construction Clean)
The detail clean takes place after all trades have completed their work, fixtures are installed, joinery is fitted, and painting is done. This is the most labour-intensive stage of the post-construction cleaning checklist.
The detail clean addresses the finer residues left behind across every surface. This includes wiping down all joinery and cabinetry, cleaning inside cupboards and drawers, removing adhesive and sticker residue from windows and appliances, cleaning tiles and grout, degreasing kitchen and bathroom surfaces, and removing plaster dust from light fittings, cornices, and skirting boards.
Stage 3: Final Clean (Sparkle Clean)
The final clean, sometimes called the sparkle clean, is the pre-handover polish. It happens as close to handover as possible and is focused on presentation. Every glass surface is polished streak-free, floors are cleaned and protected, all fixtures are wiped over, and the property is walked through to a handover standard.
This is the stage most people picture when they think of a builders clean. At Builders Clean Adelaide, our final clean service is designed to ensure your site is dust-free, polished, and ready to impress on handover day.

When Do You Need a Builders Clean in Adelaide?
A builders clean is required at the end of any construction or renovation project where the site will be occupied, leased, sold, or presented to a client. Common situations where a builders clean Adelaide is needed include:
New residential builds: required by the builder before handover to the owner. The final clean is typically the last item completed before the handover inspection.
Home renovations and extensions: even partial renovations generate significant dust that spreads through the entire property. A builders clean addresses both the construction zone and the affected areas of the existing home.
Commercial fitouts and office builds: required before staff move in or tenants take possession. Commercial projects often have specific cleanliness standards that need to be met for the fitout to be signed off.
Strata and multi-residential developments: individual dwellings and common areas both require a builders clean before the building can be occupied.
Who organises the builders clean? In most cases on new residential builds, the builder is responsible for organising and paying for the builders clean as part of the handover process. On renovations, this is often negotiated between the builder and the owner when the contract is drawn up. On commercial projects, responsibility typically sits with the head contractor. Property owners who are project managing their own build or renovation are responsible for organising it directly.
